Syrian Center for Tobacco Studies International Summer Program for Tobacco Control Research
The Syrian Center for Tobacco Studies (SCTS), in partnership with
University of Aleppo, University of Memphis, American University of
Beirut, and Virginia Commonwealth University, are pleased to announce
their first International Summer Program for Tobacco Control Research
This week-long tobacco control research-oriented course is designed
to meet the needs of a wide range of health-related professionals, who
need training in tobacco control research methods but whose
circumstances preclude their enrollment in prolonged training programs.
Setting:
University of Aleppo- Faculty of Medicine- (Al-Razi Hall).
Time:
July 13- 17, 2008
Program focus:
The course will be research-oriented, and will focus on methods of
tobacco control research that are relevant to the tobacco epidemic in
the Arab region.
Participants:
30 participants from:
Postgraduate medical students interested in tobacco control research.
Public health officials working in tobacco control.
Individuals with demonstrated work and interest in tobacco control research.
Tuition:
Tuition will be free for all course participants
Fellowship Program:
10 fellows from Arab countries will be supported to attend the course.
Fellowships will be awarded on a competitive basis and will include:
Travel fellowships of 500 US dollars each.
Accommodation and food expenses in Aleppo, Syria during the course period.
Eligibility:
Applicants for the Fellowship program must meet the following criteria:

Work or demonstrate interest in tobacco control.

Work or live in one of the Arab countries.

Have an educational and/or professional background qualifies him / her to benefit from intensive training course program.

Have exhibited ability to mobilize others and potential to impact in his/her country.

Have no connections to the tobacco industry.

Have an adequate command and understanding of English language to participate actively in the course.

Have willingness and ability to come to Aleppo, Syria for one-week summer program.

Applicant should submit one page statement of purpose with a copy of CV.
